THE FOUNDATION OF THE MINT
| 1467 is accepted as the beginning of the Turkish Mint, when Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror ordered the mintage of the first gold coin in the name of himself. This fact is expressed on the 4 mm. thick outer frame and the 10,5 mm. thick gold coin, with 3 times its original size, is placed at the center of the medallion. Both sides are identical. |
