I am very much excited because the organization I am managing is very open to what is new!

wpe2.jpg (23402 bytes)

First, I would like to give you very brief history of the 533 years. And then say something little longer about our aims, technology and products.

Turkish States founded in the Middle East and Anatolia minted coins from the beginning of the 9th century. However, the Mint that was established by Sultan Mehmet,

wpe4.jpg (17710 bytes)

following the conquest of Istanbul ,

wpe4.jpg (23270 bytes)

is accepted as the first “Turkish Mint”.

wpe5.jpg (22164 bytes)

And the first golden coin minted in 1467 after his name marked as the foundation of our Mint.

wpe7.jpg (29714 bytes)

To meet the increasing coin demandof fastly expanding Empire, as many as 40 auxiliarymints were established afterwards.

wpe8.jpg (20783 bytes)

But, Istanbul continued to be the principal city of the mintage.

wpe5.jpg (15276 bytes)

Others were closed in 1843.

wpe6.jpg (15957 bytes)

Construction of the latest mint started in 1961

wpe7.jpg (15641 bytes)

And the production began on July 8, 1967

wpe3B.jpg (24601 bytes)

20. Nostalgia Set

wpe3C.jpg (41418 bytes)

This set is realized by using original dies of our former circulation coins.

In gold,

coins of the year 1948, 1949, 1950, 1951

wpe3D.jpg (52834 bytes)

In silvar

1934, 1965 and 1975

wpe3E.jpg (38214 bytes)

Apart from opening coin design contests, we have invited our famous sculptors and asked them to make artistic work for our new series.

The first of this is “ the Turks of the Millenium ”, which will be issued in fives.

The first five will be issued in April and one of which will be our first platinuim commemorative coin.

Last year we have also launched coin minted metal boxes in bronze,

wpe3F.jpg (54998 bytes)

silver and gold.

wpe40.jpg (34354 bytes)

As far as I know the first in the world.

wpe41.jpg (32977 bytes) wpe42.jpg (21619 bytes)

Now every coin is also sold with a metal box with the mintage of the coin on the cover.

wpe43.jpg (39588 bytes)

Serial number, is minted on the box and the weight as well if it is in gold.

Another pioneer on the market is the lighter we have produced with CdA of Switzerland.

wpe44.jpg (41107 bytes)

That is done by mounting a golden commemorative coin into a silver lighter.

Among our new products there is a paper weight. The demountable commemorative coin is the thickest of its kind as far as diameter is concerned.

wpe45.jpg (25846 bytes) wpe46.jpg (28594 bytes)

New medallion is made by using the first golden coin

wpe47.jpg (51425 bytes)

There is also a sculpture type of this medallion

wpe48.jpg (39920 bytes)

We are the only legal producer of the official gold coins.

wpe49.jpg (44833 bytes)

Out of existing two different types, thick ones are purchased for investment purposes and thin ones as a gift for special events like weddings or circumcition ceremonies. In the year 2000 the total production of the two was 32 tons. In pieces 12 million!

Apart from these, we are producing special Mint Gold for 5 years;

wpe4A.jpg (17060 bytes)

only one kind and 6 gr. with no face value.

That is bought also by the collectors. This year we made a special coverage for these gold coins.

wpe4B.jpg (32744 bytes)

In the mid section, in red, there are special printings and UV writings;

wpe4C.jpg (16021 bytes)

on the bottom left, 5 mm lead blank with the official seal and serial number.

Another new product to arrive to the market shortly, will be pens.

wpe4D.jpg (48379 bytes) wpe4E.jpg (38764 bytes)

These again will be produced with CdA of Switzerland.

Finally, in our recent new product line, there will be wrist and pocket watches.

wpe4F.jpg (23896 bytes) wpe50.jpg (28994 bytes)

This year, in two weeks of time, we will be opening our first two shops. Number one will be in our premises;

wpe51.jpg (57114 bytes) wpe5D.jpg (44180 bytes)
wpe53.jpg (54987 bytes) wpe54.jpg (42039 bytes)

And the Number 2 will be in our new international airport in Istanbul.

If you let me say few words about the technology we are using at the moment; I’d first say they are not so old as our age, 533 years! But they reflect the experience of 533 years!

This was the technology we were using some time ago.

wpe55.jpg (33365 bytes) wpe56.jpg (36548 bytes)

wpe57.jpg (58525 bytes) wpe58.jpg (62458 bytes)

Today :

This is where we do the engraving.

wpe59.jpg (82337 bytes)

As you see we are still using this machine which is almost 175 years old! Still so beautiful.

At the same time

We use this one as well.

wpe5A.jpg (58837 bytes)

This is where the dies are made.

wpe5B.jpg (30426 bytes) wpe5C.jpg (44141 bytes)

This is where we do the moulding.

wpe5E.jpg (61609 bytes)

Where we make the rolling.

wpe5F.jpg (58344 bytes) wpe60.jpg (79539 bytes)
wpe61.jpg (62302 bytes)

Where we produce blanks.

wpe62.jpg (44584 bytes)

The annealing

wpe63.jpg (47918 bytes)

where we weigh them

wpe64.jpg (48731 bytes)

Polishing

wpe65.jpg (35636 bytes) wpe66.jpg (55331 bytes)

minting

wpe67.jpg (29778 bytes) wpe68.jpg (49841 bytes)

and this is where we pack them.

wpe69.jpg (58943 bytes)

So we are confident today

and vey proud of yesterday.

wpe6A.jpg (42614 bytes) wpe6B.jpg (30043 bytes)
wpe6C.jpg (23521 bytes) wpe6D.jpg (34947 bytes)

Final word; after 533 years of experience, we are still young and strong thanks to new technologies and endless modernizations. And we are ready to communicate and cooperate in every field with other mints and organizations.

wpe5.jpg (33556 bytes)

Thank you for kind attention.

And great big congratulations to World Money Fair for the 30th anniversary.
